Zilico’s first product will enable colposcopists to better target biopsy sites thereby reducing the number of diagnostic biopsies and avoiding the gross over-treatment of mild abnormalities.  The device will provide a real-time diagnosis.  We estimate a target market, which is mainly in the developed world, of 13 million referrals annually. Most mild abnormalities that show up during colposcopy will go away but physicians currently have no way of deciding which are self-resolving and which will progress to pre-cancerous lesions and then to cancer. Many physicians opt for diagnostic biopsies of these abnormalities. This approach carries a small risk of medical complicationand, at a cost of around $1,200 per patient, is expensive.

Zilico’s second product is targeted at the very large cervical screening market where we estimate a potential global available market of 500 million tests each year.  This product will provide a real-time diagnosis at the primary point-of-care thus reducing the significant traffic in the healthcare system between primary care, cytology laboratories and colposcopy clinics - and resulting in a more effective application of limited healthcare resources. 

Although vaccines are an important step forward, they will not eradicate the disease and screening will still be necessary. The second Zilico product will be the new gold standard in primary care screening both in countries with advanced screening programmes and in countries where there are none.
